An army marches on its stomach, but a refugee camp runs on laundry.

Which is why Johnny surveys the makeshift laundry room in the bank basement with dismay. Sudsy water ripples along the concrete floor as a half-dozen kids splash through it gleefully. It's a water balloon fight without balloons, thick blooms of foamy bubbles tall as enemy soldiers cower in the corners for the kids' attack.

Only one of the industrial washers is currently overflowing, but the rattle-thump of an off-balance spin cycle trumpets its impending doom.

Still. The kids are laughing, and joy is more rare than soap.
