Summary: Things live in the ice, you know



Things live in the ice, you know. Under it. They flicker slowly in the cold, blue and green, white and crystal and clear. They look exactly like the ice, but they don't melt when they thaw, they just flicker faster, mere smears of faint color in the mist, invisible in sunlight.

How do they live, you ask. What do they eat, and how do they eat it? Mostly they eat air, oxygen and nitrogen, water in all its forms. But they have no qualms at taking in more solid stuff: carbon and iron and more complex things. Teeth so sharp you never feel the bite.

Look out for the ones with red shadows, blues shading to purple. Those are the ones that have acquired a taste for cells, for salt and warmth and the beat of living blood. Look out. But don't run.

Running won't help if they find you.
