Gert locked herself in her bedroom, feeling panic clutch at her throat. Could her parents really be killers? Dale and Stacey were weird sure, but murderers? Gert would have never suspected that they were even capable of anything like that.

Her chest felt heavy; like a weight sitting on it. It had been a while since she had a panic attack. Finding out your parents were murderous cultists was probably a reasonable enough trigger. She tried to calm herself with some deep breathing. After about ten minutes she started to calm down, and then she started to make a plan.
