I whispered your name when I held your tiny sleeping frame.
You cooed and grinned when I sang you your name.

Now you say your name with pride to everyone you meet.
I hear your friends chant your name whenever you greet.

I believe that a name carries meaning
And I associate these hopes with you in this naming:

Willingness to give it your all,
Persistence especially after a fall,

Showing love to strangers and those you know,
Exercise kindness to others as you grow,

And strength of character to do what’s right.
To you, my child, I’ll pray this and more with all my might.
