In light of LJ’s new Terms of Service and their implications, we’ve decided to close down the LJ side of

fan_flashworks. This will take effect in three and a half months, at the beginning of August. From August 1st,

fan_flashworks will continue exclusively on Dreamwidth.

Housekeeping
1. We will not be deleting the existing posts in the community (though we can’t promise that Livejournal won’t, when the comm becomes inactive).
2. If you have already earned a name tag on LJ, you don't have to earn it again on DW.
3. We plan to import the LJ entries into the DW community soon, as a backup, and import again when we move. If you don’t want your works included in fan_flashworks on DW, please let us know in the comments below. We can’t exclude them from the import, but we'll delete them immediately after.
4. You can link your LJ identity (via openID) with your Dreamwidth account here.

If you have any other questions, please ask.

In conclusion
We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your creativity and enthusiasm for this comm -- it wouldn’t exist without you. We hope you’ll join us on the other side.

Thank you, dear mods for your dedication, and for your bravery in taking the community on the plunge. I will be sorry if we lose anyone who's staying in LJ, but I think this makes a good deal of sense in the situation.

We can change your name tag once we've done the import, no problem. Or if you want to leave it as by: brookeoflorien, that's fine too -- your choice!

It seems as if a lot comms do this step and decide to close the LJ comm. Though I've decided some days ago already to make DW my main journal it still makes me a bit sad; LJ was my home for so long. But I can understand that it doesn't make much sense to stay at a place where most people feel too uncomfortable to 'play'.

I know what you mean -- I've been on LJ since 2004; this is where I discovered fandom and fannish communities. It is sad to leave. But we think it's time.

It's a good thing that I've only written for one prompt, lol. Years ago... under my ancient account that is now inactive. It's also a good thing that I've had the foresight to join the community over on DW.

I definitely feel like I am missing something, though. I haven't been active on LJ until rather recently. Can't you remain on LJ, but make sure everything is backed up over on DW? Even if there are terms of service that are problematic?

We could. We choose not to, partly because we have moral objections to the new ToS (in particular, the requirement to comply with Russian law, given Russia's legislation on GLBTQ+ issues), and partly because it's extra work to run the comm across both platforms, and

teaotter and I have moved to being primarily Dreamwidth-based.

I think most (though not all) fannish people already have Dreamwidth accounts these days, either to supplement or replace their LJs, and we sincerely hope we won't lose anyone with the move, but it was going to happen sooner or later. We decided to give it three more months, from the date of this post.

We do hope you'll join us on Dreamwidth, if you feel so inclined! :-)
