Feeling nervous Casey grabbed for a hold at the metallic railing and stopped breathing when the door of the glass elevator closed silently, and the cabin started to move upwards. 35 floors, Zeke had told him, in 58 seconds.

„Keep your camera ready, the view is amazing.“

Casey swallowed hard and wished he would have told Zeke that he hated heights and elevators. Feeling caged in this barely 20 square feet big glassy box didn't make it easier. He had no eye for the beauty outside but counted the seconds until he finally would be able to leave it again.

10... 11... 12...

What was that? The motor suddenly seemed louder and wasn't there a light vibration running through the cabin? Casey could feel sweat on his forehead but didn't dare to wipe it down.

17... 18... 19...

„Hey, geek boy, everything okay?“
He felt Zeke's hand on his arm and forced himself to breathe.

„Sure.“

24... 25... 26...

„You never was a good liar. Why didn't you tell me?“

Breathing. 28... Counting. 29... 30... He had made it through the first half of the horror trip and was still alive. 31...

Finally, he dared to lift his head a bit; Zeke looked truly compassionately. Casey counted. 35... 36... And suddenly he felt like an idiot.

„It's so embarrassing,“ he murmured.

„Embarrassing?“
Ignoring the other people in the elevator who were busy with enjoying the view Zeke put his arm around Casey's shoulder and squeezed him.
„I will tell you a secret. I'm still afraid of thunderstorms; then I hide in my room, close the curtains and turn on the music as loud as possible to drown out the thunder. Usually, it doesn't help much."

Casey smirked.
„You are fooling me.“

„No, I don't. I know, it's not very rational, and as a scientist, I should know better. But it's stronger than any good sense."

The elevator stuttered barely noticeable, then it stopped. Casey looked startled, but Zeke laughed reassuring.
„Don't worry; it's okay. We have reached the last floor. C'mon, I will buy you a soda at first. Guess you can need that.

And don't worry, we can take the stairs to go downwards later.“
