Ants. I hate ants. I know they have their place in the world, and I'm fine with that. Outside. Not in my house. Most especially not in my kitchen. Mostly I go for the gentler, less poisonous than modern-chemical-germ-warfare, but not when it comes to ants (or for that matter cockroaches or termites). I have the cayenne-clove-cinnamon mix, which is effective, smells nice, and is no danger to the cats, and I know about detergent-water as barrier and scourge, but they're both slow. I want the ants to die now, fast, instantly. Raid and its ilk are good for that.

—Recipe for the pepper-spice ant-deterrent: 2 parts cayenne to one part each powdered cinnamon and powdered/ground clove. Mix well and sprinkle along baseboards and so forth. Also works outside.
