Summary: A Double Reverse Etheree on the sons and daughters in King Lear
The poetry form Etheree consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables.

A father listens to artful fair words
Ignores the one who speaks from the heart
Sets in train the family fall
Sees only what he wants
Finds disdain but no love
Goneril, Regan,
Cordelia,
Lear’s daughters.
All three
Dead

Sons:
One true,
One bastard;
Gloucester’s two boys,
Edmund forced to fight
Edgar inheriting.
The father oblivious,
His mistakes discovered too late.
The betrayed demands bloody revenge
And becomes king, but at what dreadful price

This is brill writing, and I <3 your poetry-brain so hard I can't even! My love for structured poetry is great, and I usually work in either haiku or tanka...and now you have introduced me to a structured form I didn't know before. I must try this one myself soon!

Thank you so much - that's really kind of you to say so. I'm not particularly confident with poetry, but sometimes it seems to be the best way for me to express something.

I learnt about the Etheree from [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60 and if you look here (http://sherlock60.livejournal.com/tag/poetry%20page) there are several different forms. You may find something else which appeals as well.

I was rather thrilled to see you using this form, to be honest - it was kind of exciting to see it moving outside of Sherlock60.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit how unfamiliar I am with King Lear - I have only a very basic knowledge of its plot. But your choice of form seems to fit so well - especially in the first half, when it dwindles down to "Goneril, Regan,/ Cordelia,/ Lear’s daughters./ All three/ Dead"

The whole poem feels very natural in its flow.

You've introduced me to so many forms of poetry and although I don't often manage to use them in Sherlock60 they've proved really useful elsewhere. I especially seem to like using poetry when writing about Shakespeare for some reason, so having a variety of forms to choose from is great.

I'm delighted you like the way I used the etheree - it seemed to lend itself to what I wanted to say.
