Summary: Melinda/Daisy, sleeping next to each other for warmth, with possibly unrequited longing on Daisy’s side.



“It’s freezing,” Daisy said, shivering.

“It’s a mission,” Melinda said, as if that explained it.

Daisy sighed.

“In the field, we use body heat to keep warm,” Melinda said then. We zip our sleeping bags together to make one big one, and we use heat transfer.”

“Okay. Let’s do that,” Daisy said, making an effort to sound nonchalant. “I mean, it’s so cold.”

They quickly zipped their bags together and got in, not wanting to be in the cold air for any longer than they had to.

“It works better if we’re closer,” Melinda said, almost sounding amused.

“Right,” Daisy answered, realizing how strange it must have seemed that she was leaning away from Melinda. She snuggled closer.

Melinda reached over and put her arms around her, and Daisy couldn’t help but close her eyes and savor it, the closeness of it, the press of Melinda’s body against her own.

“Warmer now?” Melinda asked, voice soft.

Daisy nodded. “Way better.” She looked up at Melinda and saw Melinda staring back, as if she were trying to figure something out about Daisy.


“I’m glad it’s the two of us. On the mission,” Daisy said hopefully.

Melinda smiled. “Me too.”
