Summary: Tracy awakens to a new life.


Tracy opened her eyes. She was lying on the ground in the forest. Standing up, she looked around and noticed the stump of a giant tree. Something about it seemed to enchant her, and she found herself staring at it.

“You can feel the power coming off of it, right?” said a voice from behind Tracy, startling her.

Tracy turned to look at the speaker. It was a blonde girl who looked vaguely familiar. After a minute, Tracy thought she recognized her from school. “Erica? Erica Reyes?” she asked.

The blonde girl smiled. “That’s me” she said. “Do you know what’s happened to you?”

Tracy shook her head. “I remember talking to Malia. And then I felt a sharp pain” she said. “The next thing I know, I woke up here.”

Erica cleared her throat. “Right. Um, well, there’s no easy way to say this, but you didn’t wake up, exactly” she said.

“What do you mean?” asked Tracy.

“Look, this is my first time doing this by myself” said Erica, sounding exasperated. “Normally my Alpha does this, but she decided it was time I took the lead, so…”

“Just tell me what’s going on!” cried Tracy.

“You died!” said Erica. “Okay, there I said it. You died and this is the afterlife.”

Tracy laughed. “This is the afterlife?” she asked.

“What were you expecting?” asked Erica. “Angels dressed all in white floating from cloud to cloud?”

Tracy shrugged her shoulders.

“Well, this is the afterlife for us” said Erica. “When something not-quite-human dies in Beacon Hills, this is where we come.”

“And do what?” asked Tracy.

Erica shrugged. “Just exist” said Erica. “In a way, it’s a chance for us to live the lives we were robbed of while we were alive. My Alpha can explain it better.”

“Your Alpha?”

“Her name’s Laura” said Erica. “Real sweetheart. And easy on the eyes, too. If you’ll let me, I’d like to take you to meet her now.” Erica held out her hand for Tracy to take it.

Slowly, Tracy took Erica’s hand, preparing for the new life that awaited her.
