PAY ATTENTION, MAN

February 14, 1968

The first Valentine's Day of a new relationship was always a bit – heady. But for Peter Tork, knowing that his new girlfriend not only knew about his meta-human abilities but loved him anyway? That made it more so.

He decided to take the long way from Valerie Cartwright's mansion to the Pad, gliding over the ocean, bouyed up by only his own telekinesis. Flight was wonderful and he was – honestly – more than a little addicted to it.

There was something he loved about just floating along, feeling the wind pushing against his body and watching the scenery glide past. Feeling more than a little content, Peter slid onto his back and just floated through the air.

Slowly, he found himself being lulled to sleep. Without his conscious control, the content telekinetic's eyes slid closed.

Seconds later, the full-body shock of impacting the ocean jarred Peter to sudden wakefulness. He broke the surface, gasping for air, and took quick inventory.

"Oh, geesh," he groaned. "Pay attention, man!" he laughed, eyes softly glowing with blue light as his telekinesis re-activated. "Can't use your powers with your eyes closed – even when you're awake!"

Still laughing, he finished the glide to the Pad. Waving off his three roommates' questions with a simple, "Got distracted, met the ocean up close and personal," he headed to dry off and change his clothes.

Peter's romantic Valentine's Day was over – but the Monkees still had a gig to play that evening.
