Have you ever wondered what is to be done
When someone changes you?
When you were born an innocent
Yet their absence mocked you.

That is how she felt everyday
A lonely mocked child
She would watch everyone around her
And envy every hug and smile.

Each foster had their own truth
And she was a problem in each one
So she dug her heels and prayed for family
Even though she was disappointed without one.

A little away, in a place she didn’t know
There was a boy who had it as bad as her
He cringed with every whisper
And prayed for loneliness, unlike her.

Have you ever wondered what is to be done
When someone changes you?
When you were born an innocent
Yet their behaviour mocked you.

He had parents and two brothers,
One older, stronger and a sadist,
He made him do things against his will
And hurt the younger when he didn’t deserve it.

He’s the wrong child, they said
The problematic one that caused the fire
He never thought he would prefer his home
Over starving in the woods undercover.

At night he would close his eyes
And dream of a better family
Not knowing that not far away
She imagines the same daily.
