“What is it?” Nimloth leaned over her cousin’s shoulder, cheerfully perching on the side of his chair.

Thranduil rolled his eyes. “I don’t know, and neither does anyone else. It’s why we’re examining it like this.”

Nimloth poked at it. “It kind of looks like a necklace.”

“Necklaces are entirely different from this. What do you mean it looks like one of them?” Thranduil said, turning it around to look at the other side.

“Just that it looks about the size to fit around somebody’s neck – it would fit around yours. And what else would it be?” She held it still when Thranduil went to move it again.

“I just told you, I don’t know. It’s something one of those Golodhrim had with them, before leaving it behind,” he answered.

Thranduil smiled as Celeborn as he came closer, before shooting a wistful look over at where the Noldor were standing.

“What are you looking at them like that for?” Celeborn asked his nephew.

“Just thinking over something Nimloth said once, and how much she would have wanted to know she was right,” Thranduil said.

“Oh?”

“The first time we found one of those torcs, she thought it was a necklace while the rest of us had no idea. She was right that it went around their necks,” Thranduil answered, fidgeting with his own jewelry as he did.

“She would have enjoyed being able to gloat to us about it.” Celeborn nodded. “She was part of our family, after all.”

Thranduil laughed. “She was, and perhaps the brightest of us all.”

“Indeed. She probably would have stolen the title of ‘The Wise’ from me if she had lived long enough to.”

Thranduil nodded.
