Title: Don't Stop Believing
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lt_indigo
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: G
Length: 100 words
Summary: In which Castiel has his faith restored.
Author's note: for the 1,000 most common words challenge on SBIGGTS. A companion to Mysterious Ways.

Whatever the thing had been, where it had come from, he knew his Father had sent it to them. He had to have done. There was no other way of explaining it. It had returned his light to him; saved his life, and that of his human friend; something that should not have been possible. It had brought the two of them closer than he had ever hoped. And it meant he could still trust in his Father's plan, still believe, still hope. They were obviously still doing the right thing, if his Father was still helping them, even now.

There is more to this story in 'I Once Was Lost'.

This is great - I love how you used the 1000 words constraint to get into Cas' headspace.

It was so tricky, trying to find the right words to convey what I wanted to say! There's no names allowed, for a start! And apparently 'faith' isn't one of the 1000 words...

And Cas' headspace is normally filled with lovely, pretty, unusual words.

Very sweet, and I'm impressed you actually managed to do so well with only using the most commonly used words. :-) That's one I've yet to dare to touch.

I also admit I've certainly been in similar situations as Cas here. Sometimes, it seems so hard to believe our Heavenly Father is helping us, but then the little things can also make it so clear that He is. Good to see Cas having faith in here.

I was so sad at the end of Dark Side of the Moon, and 99 Problems, with Cas having lost his faith. And everything he has done afterwards has been because he no longer believes his Father cares (but someone has to).

I just wanted to give him something that would make him more complete, give him back that fundamental part of himself and restore his faith in everything.

The 1000 words was something I was intrigued by, and thought it couldn't possibly be that hard. I thought maybe something I had already written might qualify. Then I realised that names are disallowed. And just about every word you might use in a Supernatural tale (or a Torchwood one, for that matter). It was tricky, trying to make something that did fit, but it was actually fun trying to find very common similes for words that I use. The hardest part for this was the fact that 'faith' is not one of the permitted words! And neither are 'lover' or 'partner'; both of which I wanted to use to refer to Dean. 'Boyfriend' is, but it's just not them.
