They didn’t have locks when he was young.

No matter how much his grandchildren didn’t believe him, he had grown up in the wildnerness before they had ever even considered that Valinor could exist. They had tried to respect each other’s privacy, but there was only so much you could do before they found those.

He tries to keep Caranthir from going into Celegorm’s room, and Fingon from sneaking into everyone’s locked rooms when they visit.

But he wonders those nights whether he’s really doing any good. Maybe if he didn’t let them lock each other out, they’d get used to one another.
