A/N: This is NOT the sequel to "Indecision" that I promised a couple of weeks back. That one's still in the works. This is just something that popped up while I was waiting for the tie vote regarding the sequel to resolve itself. Thank you to everyone that voted! It was incredibly close throughout.

"I want to have sex, John.”
“What, now? Sherlock, I'm flattered, but this is hardly the time or place.”
“Yes, now! And later! And every time in between. I can't stand this waiting around. I want to have sex all the time, and it's your fault.”
“My fault? How is it my fault?”
“You started it. I was perfectly fine with being married to my work until you made a pass at me.”
“I don't remember you complaining. In fact, I seem to remember you saying it was the best sex of your life.”
“That's the problem! Now that I've had it again I can't stop thinking about it.”
“Sherlock, let's just get through this stakeout, yeah? Then we can go home and...”
“Sod the stakeout! Don't you see? I'm an addict, John. To the Work--though drugs will do in a pinch--and to anything else that makes me feel alive. Just crouching here, smelling the spice of your aftershave, feeling the sleeve of your shirt brush against my knee, is driving me to distraction. Let's go!”
“But this stakeout was your idea!”
“This stakeout is tedious. I've deduced who the killer is. There's no more mystery. I'd rather be doing that thing where you use your fingers to...”
“Sherlock.”
“And then I want to do the thing where I apply my tongue to your...”
“Sherlock!”
“Don't you want to? You do! The dilation of your pupils, the way you just shifted your stance—you do want to.”
“Of course I do! But we promised Lestrade... I mean, we can't just run off.”
“How can you stay crouched here, watching the back door of a house where nothing has happened for hours, when we could be having sex right now?”
“Because it's your job to do it! And I said I'd help. It's important to have a little balance in life, you know.”
“Balance is boring.”
“So let me get this straight, John. The suspect escaped, drove to a private airfield, and chartered a plane out of the country?”
“It appears so, yes.”
“But how did that happen? Sherlock assured me you two would keep an eye on him until we could get a warrant for his arrest!”
“He, ah, got past us, Greg. He was, well. Very sneaky.”
“Got past you. I see. Well, this is a right disaster, isn't it? Six months of police work down the drain. Unless he returns our hands are tied.”
“I'm sorry.”
“Just--go home. I'll get your reports tomorrow. Oh, and John? You might want to do something about those grass stains.”
“What grass stains?”
“The ones all over your back."

Thank you. :)
Perhaps there have been lessons learnt all around?
I imagine this was a case NSY being short-staffed and not having enough officers to watch all the places they needed to. Sherlock, sure he was right, had volunteered keep an eye on this low-priority place, and was supposed to call in if he saw any movement. That probably WAS pushing it--Lestrade either should have trusted his judgement enough to send some official police there, or not trusted him enough to do surveillance for him. But Sherlock had always been so reliable before...
Yes, clearly everyone needs to make some changes around here! :-p
Thank you!
(Ah, yes - should say something sensible and adult too.) I thought just using dialogue worked very well ^^ Very snappy, very witty.
(Ah, thank you very much! I appreciate the "sensible and adult" comment as well!) I'm delighted that the dialogue-only format worked for you. :)
