The wolves have been hunted nearly to extinction.

She misses them. She might be the only one; most of her schoolmates were terrified of them, would dive for cover at the sound of their howls. She doesn't know anyone who's been attacked by one, but that doesn't make them less afraid of the old stories.

The hunters are the ones that scare her. They come back into town, carrying their trophies high, whooping and screaming. Lots of people cheer for them, but she always runs. They take pleasure in the hunt. What would happen when they run out of wolves?
