“Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?” Francesco asked, handing Viola a folder with a fake résumé inside.

“It’s just a job interview,” she said, straightening her dress.

“I don’t like the idea of sending you in there undercover. You’re not a cop.”

She laughed softly. “Relax. I just have to plant the bug and tank the interview.”

Francesco sighed. “Yeah, but… you’re putting yourself on the line for me. I worry.”

“Francesco, breathe. It’ll be fine.”

He watched her walk into the building with confidence, his heartbeat quickening.

“That’s what gets me every damn time,” he muttered.
