Wirework was always fun, Dee and Ryo both loved doing stunts where they got to fly, defying gravity, nothing but a harness beneath their clothes and a thin wire between themselves and the ground. It was exhilarating, an adrenaline rush, but it was also dangerous, so they always took care to triple check the equipment, and to check every buckle and clip on each other’s harnesses. Only a fool would take chances.

They were doubling for a couple of big names in another action movie, and this scene called for the two main characters to fight while clinging to a cliff face, until one of them eventually fell. Everything was rigged so that Dee, who’d be the one falling, would only drop a short distance. Of course, before the fight could begin, they first had to climb down the cliff a couple of hundred feet. Later on, CGI would make it look like they were higher up than they were.

The fight itself, rehearsed a number of times on a fake cliff face that was only fifteen feet high, went off without a hitch, and the ‘fall’ was spectacular. Ryo could hear Dee whooping and laughing where he was hanging thirty feet below as he helped the stunt crew reel his lover back up to their starting position, ready to climb back up. Done and dusted in one take! How often did that happen?

Back on level ground, unhitched from the rigging and making their way back to the changing area to get out of their harnesses, Dee was still chuckling.

“Man, that was awesome!”

“You’re limping,” Ryo observed.

“Yeah, my harness has gotten a bit twisted, it’s chafin’ worse than usual, but you’ll give me some TLC, won’t ya?”

“As long as you return the favor.”

“Count on it.”

The End
