Dee groaned, clutching his pounding head. “This isn’t how I’d imagined startin’ married life.”

Ryo peeled one eye open, relieved to find the room had stopped spinning. Last night everything had been a bit of a whirl. “D’you think we can order painkillers from room service along with coffee?”

“Only one way to find out.”

“Um, yeah, but I’d have to move to reach the phone and I’m afraid my head might explode. Or fall off.”

“What the fuck was in that champagne?”

“Alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol.” Ryo had closed his eye again and was lying as still as possible to avoid anything catastrophic happening to his head. It was the only one he’d got.

“Alcohol. Right, that figures. All those little bubbles must’ve been full of it. Maybe we should’a just had the one bottle.”

“But they gave us two.”

“Yeah, but we could’a saved one for another night. I swear I’m never drinkin’ champagne again, not as long as I live. If I’d known last night what that stuff does to a guy, I would’a sent it back, complementary or not. This may be the shortest marriage ever; mornin’ after our weddin’ and I think I’m dyin’.”

“Nuh uh. I’d have to feel a lot better than this to feel like I was dying. This is so much worse. I almost never get hangovers.”

“Guess there’s only one thing we can do.”

“What?”

“Try to sleep it off.”

“But it’s our honeymoon,” Ryo whimpered.

“Still be our honeymoon later, if we survive the hangover from hell.” Dee shifted carefully on the mattress, draping one arm over his husband’s limp form. “Stop thinkin’. I’ll keep ya from floatin’ away.”

“Promise?”

“Already did that. For better or worse, remember? Just didn’t expect the worse to happen so soon.”
