Fandom: Ducktales (2017)

Summary: A character study of Louie Duck.

Louie isn't brave. Even before he saw the world for the first time, he was afraid. He is the youngest of the three because he was nervous upon leaving his shell. His uncle had to coax him out of it. Over time, however, his sweatshirt became a new shell, and he hides within the hood whenever he is too afraid to face reality.

Huey and Dewey are brave. Huey sets out into the unknown to discover new things and understand them. Following the rules of the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook, he seeks to challenge himself and one day earn his Adventurer's Merit Badge. Striving for his cartographer's badge, he attempted to climb to the peak of Mt. Neverrest but was brave enough to turn around when it proved too dangerous. Dewey loves the thrill of adventure, always rushing in without thinking first. But even though he may get stuck in a difficult situation, he will always strive to complete what he set out to do. He pushed himself to find answers to their mother's disappearance, even though he was afraid of what he would learn.

Uncle Donald and Uncle Scrooge are brave. Uncle Donald raised the triplets all on his own, even though they weren't his responsibility. It was a tough job, as the boys were more than a handful. Uncle Donald will protect them at all costs because he doesn't have the common sense to give up when faced with insurmountable odds. He raced against Uncle Gladstone, the luckiest duck in the world, to free everyone from a luck vampire. Uncle Scrooge is also protective and will defend anything he cares about. Searching for answers made Dewey reckless, and he chased the last clue out onto the Sunchaser's wing. Uncle Scrooge became desperate for his safety. He couldn't lose another member of his family; it was too painful the first time. So, to bring Dewey back inside the plane, he agreed to tell the kids the truth, despite knowing the boys would blame him.

Louie runs from danger. He doesn't like being the target of an enemy or a deadly trap. He would rather talk himself out of a situation than face it head on, just like he tried to do with the mummy of Toth-Ra. Even his ability to see the angles and create a plan is a way to find a shortcut without getting hurt in the process. He prefers to let everyone else do the heavy lifting while he stands back and talks.

Louie isn't brave.
