"If Erik Nilsson manages to insinuate himself into that group it’ll be like having a wolf in the fold,” Harry Pearce said.  “He could create two or three acolytes by the end of the afternoon.  We have to stop him and yet I can’t see how it can be done.”

“If one of us were to go, surely we could make him believe we were the perfect candidate,” Ros said.

“He likes people who he deems physically weaker, which rules out Adam, Lucas, and Tariq for a start.  And with the best will in the world, Ros, you’re not likely to give the impression of someone lacking in self-confidence.”

“So I’ll go,” Jo said.

“Ideally, we should have two people there,” Adam said.  “One could be a bit obvious, but with two, who clearly will only have a passing acquaintance, he’ll have a choice.”

“And we can provide backup for each other if necessary,” Ros said.

“I’m not sure.”  Harry shook his head.

“When is this garden party?” Lucas asked.  “This weekend?”  When Harry nodded, he added, “Why don’t I go too?”

“Of course,” Ros said, “it’ll be a full moon.  If I go, with my rather large dog to give me confidence, I’m sure no-one will question my suitability.”

“And we’ll have a proper wolf in the fold,” Lucas added.

Harry glared at him.

As far as Section D were concerned the garden party went well.  When it drew to a close, Nilsson invited four of those present, including both Jo and Ros, to join him for dinner.

“But you’ll have to leave your dog behind,” he added.

Ros threw her arms round the werewolf’s neck and buried her face in his fur.  “I can’t, I just can’t,” she wailed.  The werewolf tried to lick her face, at which point she whispered, “Don’t you dare!”

The others all protested as well, and one said, “We can sit in the restaurant courtyard.  It’s such a lovely evening.”

Nilsson relented and they found a table in one corner of the courtyard.  The werewolf obediently lay underneath the table, and Ros bent down and switched on the transmitter on his collar.  During the meal it quickly became clear that Nilsson was keen to recruit his dinner guests to an international far right organisation.

Then once the meal was over, Nilsson said that he had to leave.  “Oh, that’s a shame,” Jo said.  “I was about to suggest we have a cocktail to finish.”

“You go ahead and do so,” Nilsson said.  “I’ll be in touch.”

They therefore did not see a discrete black car pull up outside the restaurant and two men in dark suits suggest he come with them.

Ros took the werewolf back to her flat and shortly afterwards Adam came to pick him up.  She let him in and said, “Take the wretched animal away!”

“Why?  What’s he done?”

“You see my lovely neatly folded pile of clean clothes.”

“Ah, yes.  Once more there is a wolf in the fold.”
