All I wanted was acceptance,
But you had other plans.
Cast out for my difference,
Denied a lunchroom seat,
Even laughed at.when I tried to be
Friendly.
God only knows how you turned out.
Has time changed you for the better?
I wish I had told you off,
Just once. But I
Kept it to myself, turned inward.
Let emotions unexpressed become
My poetry to cover my pain.
Now that I've found strength, it's too late.
Over time, you matter less.
Perhaps that's for the best.
Queries like "Why?” and “How could you?”
Require answers you won't give.
Sometimes I want to call you.
Tell you “I hated you for hurting me”’ but
Ultimately I turned out all right;
Very strong, compassionate.
Where you hurt me
X-rays wouldn't show.
You made me feel like one big
Zero.
