diamonds and pearls challenge: Law & Order: fic: strung together

Content notes: early season 12, character study of sorts
Author notes: I forget if they ever explained why Serena sometimes wore a pearl necklace in several early season 12 eps. Been a while since I played in Dick Wolf’s playground, so ‘scuse anything really clunky.
Summary: She lightly smiled as her granny’s words from the first time she performed this task as a child came back to her.
Fastening the lobster clasp on her pearl necklace, Serena ran her fingers along the centre of the gem strung rope chain. She lightly smiled as her granny’s words from the first time she performed this task as a child came back to her. “when you are wearing your pearls show the world that you know who you are.”
Giving a final cursory glance in the mirror she finished off her morning routine by coming her hair, straightening her dress ever so slightly. She rotated one of the pearls between her fingers for several seconds before grabbing her bag and keys.
