Mirror: Honor Harrington: fanfic

Fandom: Honor Harrington
Rating: G
Summary: A couple of scenes from Admiral Sonja Hemphill's POV, regarding Vice Admiral Shannon Foraker.
A/N: Decided to try writing Sonja's POV for this, despite being busy with RL. I hope to write more of Sonja soon, she's actually fun to write.

I skim through the reports and sensor records of the recent disaster that had been the Battle of Solon, over yet another mug of tea. While the Havenites appear to only have crude FTL, Foraker appears to be as skilled as Admiral Harrington had warned me about, I muse. While I haven’t always been on good terms with Admiral Harrington, we’re past the stage of mutual anger, and the likely-late Countess Gold Peak was one of our own, as an aristocrat. I may have not always agreed with her, her friends’, their friends and family, or her cousin on everything politically (especially after Hamish called me a pretty-faced idiot, back when King Roger was still alive).
I pull up the Intelligence files on the Havenite’s lead R&D nerd, who appears to have not only shot up to flag rank almost overnight, but also only gotten more competent, from a dangerously high starting point.
Rereading the files, when not as sleep deprived and failing at multitasking as the first time I bothered to read through them, right after Thunderbolt (because my second cousin and his colleagues refused to believe that our earned tech superiority wasn’t tech supremacy, despite what I tried to force into their heads), I notice how she’s managed to blunt the blows of several major tech advances, and devise a couple projects of her own.
Luckily, Apollo won’t be rolling out until we have enough of it, and the Havenites won’t know what hit them.
Soon after the Grand Alliance, roughly two years later, I watch from the flag bridge of the SD(P) HMS Valor, as we dock with Forge One, the biggest of the four stations in the Refuge System.
Apparently, not only was Bolthole on the complete opposite side of the galaxy from where we thought it was, Admiral Foraker apparently took some lessons in chaos from someone, and set up the sensor platforms in a non-traditional, but in many ways, more effective than the standard RHN doctrine setup, which she’s working on refining. After all, her “Welcome to Bolthole!” message had a busy background and at least four empty coffee cups in the background.
A few hours later, meeting her in person for the first time, I realize it’s almost like looking in a mirror, with a bit of a time machine, in some ways, seeing her. After all, she’s good with computers, too!
