Ted always brings slatko when he takes his family to visit, which is a strange subversion of the custom, but his fathers have always been unconventional people, so he supposes it’s alright. And the children find it delightful, all lining up to hear the little clink of the metal spoon against the jar as he makes sure they each get a little chunk of peach or strawberry or plum as if they don’t eat it practically every morning with lepinja and kajmak. By itself, though, it is a special occasion, one that makes them feel every bit the honoured guest.
