‘Squeak,’ said the rat, sitting up on its haunches.
Willow sighed. “I’m doing the best I can. I mean, I’m still a learner when it comes to all the witchy stuff; I can’t even summon all four elements yet, just three. You were always better than me, probably because your mom’s a witch too.”
‘SQUEAK SQUEAK!’
“Okay, sorry, I know you don’t like talking about her, but…” Willow shrugged. “Genetics. Maybe there’s a witch gene, which I don’t have. My parents are psychologists so I’m kind of at a disadvantage. I’m working on it though, the whole turning you back into a human. It’s just going to take a while.”
‘Squeak eek.’ Amy the rat rested a small paw on Willow’s knee.
“At least you’re comfy. I got you the best rat house I could find, and you get table scraps as well as premium rat food. For a rat you’re pretty well cared for. I even got you some toys.”
‘Squeak,’ Amy agreed.
“Besides, I sort of like having you around. Maybe some of your witchiness will rub off on me.” Willow offered Amy a morsel of cake. “It would be better if you could tell me what to do, but I guess if you could do that, you’d be able to turn yourself back. You wouldn’t need me at all.”
Amy was silent, too busy eating the cake to comment.
“I won’t give up, I promise.”
‘Squeak?’
“I’ll de-rat you. I just need to find the right spell.”
