Magic Knight Rayearth: Fanfic: Making tracks

Title: Making tracks
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth
Rating: General
Length: 200 words?
Content notes: Bad decisions?
Author notes: Spies!AU Umi and Ferio because they seemed the logical choice for bad mission decisions. Follows on from the last challenge snippet but should stand alone...
Summary: This was not the most ridiculous course of action they could have taken.

Probably.

oOo

There were worse things they could have done. Ferio held on to that, as he clung to the top of a train, air starting to whistle past him, doubt growing with each second. This was not the most ridiculous course of action they could have taken.

Probably.

Though the clang as they'd dropped down onto the train, a one-two thump as Umi dropped down first and he followed her, must have been audible inside. If there was anyone in the carriage below, surely they would have heard it?

If the people they were attempting to steal from were below - then they were in deep, deep trouble.

But all their information said that the item they wanted was three carriages from the front of the train, the next three were passengers, and this one should be the restaurant car - hopefully closed at this hour and empty with it.

Umi turned just far enough to shoot him an overly toothy grin, and waved him up - carefully, so carefully, Ferio shifted himself almost flat and reached for one awkward hand-hold after another as they rattled along the tracks. But no one had appeared to shoot at them, either through the roof or from the next carriage, though it had to be a good minute now since they'd dropped in.

"Why did we do this?" he hissed at Umi, as he came up alongside her.

"Because neither of us has any reliable common sense?" she shot back. "Anyway, it could be worse."

"How?"

"This could be the bullet train," she said, and her grin only got wider as he whimpered at the thought - three times faster and streamlined beyond belief? Yes. That would have been worse. "But it's worked. We're on the train!"

"And we're getting inside the train next," he instructed, with a wave at the end of the carriage, where he could just see the raised bump of what he really hoped was a maintenance hatch. "Getting from carriage to carriage would be too noisy out here."

"Spoilsport," Umi muttered, but she didn't disagree, and together they started to make their way forwards.

Meanwhile, Ferio was busily updating his mental list of 'people we aren't telling about this approach to a mission' to 'anyone, ever.'

I thought they handled it well and it was just darn exciting.
