Challenge: Family: Haikyuu!!: Triple Drabble: Routines
Title: Routines
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Rating: G
Length: 300 words
Notes: Just a normal dinner at the Kageyama household with the kids and their grandpa.
“Say ahhh!”
“Ahhh!”
Tobio leaned forward in his high chair to gobble up his pureed carrot rice with fish.
Miwa giggled at the wide-eyed stare he shot her while chewing with the few teeth he had.
“Don’t let your food get cold, Miwa-chan,” Grandpa reminded her, his tone as gentle as ever.
“Okay,” She handed over the spoon to focus on her own plate, shoveling in the mix of lukewarm rice and veggies as fast as possible so she could go back to feeding her brother. Grandpa took over in the meantime. If Tobio wasn’t fed for three seconds, he’d start bawling.
“Mom isn’t coming home, is she?” Miwa knew better than to ask about dad.
Grandpa gave her a sad-looking smile, spoon in hand. “Not before you’re both asleep.”
“Aww.” She’d expected that. Tobio made a grumbly noise as if he understood as well.
It didn’t matter. Dad wouldn’t be home from his company outing before Saturday evening and whenever mom came home from work, she was rarely in a good mood. “Kazuyo-kun?” Miwa picked at the remaining food on her plate, chin resting on her hand.
“Can you read me a bedtime story tonight?” She was way too old for them but-
“Of course,” Grandpa replied before she could finish her thought, “The one with the bunnies?”
“Hm.” She’d heard that one so many times the text was ingrained into her memory. It wasn’t even a good story. It was silly and babyish, more so than the books she knew from school. But it was familiar, like playing volleyball in the afternoon or watching her favorite anime.
“Miwa-chan?”, Grandpa asked, “Can you clear the table while I give Tobio a bath later?”
She nodded, smiling a little. Of course she could. After all, she did that every evening.
