Key Challenge: Mass Effect: Andromeda: Fanfic: roll the old (and all hang on behind)
Title: roll the old (and all hang on behind)
Fandom: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Rating: General Audiences
Length: 242
Summary: Alec Ryder has a brain. Is known for it, in fact. And even if it freezes, he has SAM to do the coldblooded calculating in his stead.
It's not that the air is in itself deadly to humans; it merely has little to none of the content that humans need to breathe. Plus some elevated sulfurs, and it makes for a hell of a sore throat.
Issue: with the faceplate of her helmet shattered, Sara is exposed to, and unable to access suit provided atmosphere.
Solution: An undamaged helmet. Specifically, Alec’s helmet. Slightly big, but the seal has margin of error that's more than enough, and it makes for completed system, enough to halt.
Issue: Alec is now exposed to Habitat 7's atmosphere.
Solution: return helmet. Repeat until he has a better idea.
Issue: Sara's helmet breach. One helmet can't hold two people until the shuttle arrives. Not with hostiles in the area.
Solution (partial): keep transferring his helmet, one lungful of air at a time.
Solution (partial): have SAM run overwatch using his suits sensors. He doesn't need to see the display.
Solution: patch the helmet. SAM will have to do the timing, but he's build for that kind of processing.
The omnitool doesn't have enough material to do more than a quick fix, but a shoddy repair is still a repair. Good enough to make it through evac, and that's good enough. Alec is not losing more of his family. Not now, not when they've come so far, not when they're facing into hostile first contact, hostile phenomena on a scale only the Protheans could conceive of.
