Soluble
Wellington winter, the forecast
overly optimistic it seems. I eye
clouds heavy as a weighted blanket
and unlock my bike. I didn't bring over-trousers
and my windcheater is literally coming apart at the seams
which is fine, whatever, my clothes aren't tissue paper,
skin will dry. What matters is the rain cover for my pannier
and that only for the notebook nestled amid pens, hand sanitiser, earphones, & misc. No, not even the notebook—
its last dozen pages, used, sandwiched between the rest and cardboard covers. Layers wrap layers
wrap layers wrap notes caught
in my spider-web writing: fannish meta, to-do lists, reminders to self and the dashed phrases
and sketched-out signposts that, with time and attention, might lead me into fic.
