tag culling time again!

Because most of our tags are fandom tags, we've decided to combine some of the oldest fandom tags that have only been used once. This will be a rolling project as we mods have time, and we'll post the list each time so that anyone who would like to create a second work for one of these fandoms has the opportunity to save it from our pruning!

For this round, here are some single-use tags that haven't been used since 2012/2013/2014, and how we'll replace them:

Might be better merged with f: dungeons & dragons rpg? (It's the "main" setting world for D&D. And considering media types, there are many more books than games set in FR...)

That particular work has a screencap from the anime version. (Is there a reason for manga and anime being separate categories?)

This is why I post my tag culling categories! I'm often completely unfamiliar with the fandoms myself. I'll update.

We're basically trying to keep the fandoms at least plausibly findable with these category tags. Anime and Manga are separate for the same reason that Book and TV are separate categories: we had to draw the boundaries somewhere. But if you think this one should be tagged with both categories, that's also possible.

Re the "taking suggestions" ones, do we need an "f: misc (category)" tag?

Maybe, but I'm trying to keep everything more-or-less findable. Having a MISC category doesn't exactly work with that.

Grenfell seems like we might want to make a category for Comedians, or something like that.

I'm kind of tempted to keep Lovecraft Mythos as a category, but maybe it should go under Book? Or Mythology?

I suppose we could keep these and come back to them in the future, too.

Good point! How about "f: comedy (category)" or even "f: theatre (category)"? (Comedians sounds like RPF to me.) (I don't know if this changes anything, but the work in question is a Sherlock Holmes (ACD) fusion with one of Grenfell's monologues, so it's mostly the style that's being carried over, rather than the characters.)

No idea what to do about Lovecraft Mythos -- including it in Mythology would work fine for me.

I'm just popping in to say that I was the one who wrote the ACD Holmes and Joyce Grenfell fusion. On AO3 I marked the fic with both fandoms and the Joyce Grenfell one ended up under "Theater", which I would agree is its most natural home - the monologues were written to be performed on stage.

So to echo china_shop, I would personally vote for "f: theatre (category)". (Or "f: theater (category)", depending on which spelling system you feel is most appropriate.)

I would recommend that Lovecraft mythos be included in book category, because I would say the same for The Lord of the Rings books and similar fandoms where the original author has created such detailed and elaborate world-building.

Just saying, you could probably merge "f: appare-ranman!" into "f: anime" if you want. It's a tiny fandom. I don't know if I'd write something in it again, but even if I did, I doubt anyone else will.
