John stared up at the ceiling. As far as ceilings went, it was a relatively nice ceiling. He's certainly seen worse. The light from the streetlight splayed across the white surface. It acted as a nightlight for the room, not too bright, but enough to see by.
The clock radio next to the bed blinked 2:47 am.
He sighed softly, not wanting to wake Rodney.
Who just then turned over to look at him. "Can't sleep?"
"Just..." John couldn't explain it. "I guess I miss the ocean." Or the feeling of Ancient technology in the back of his head. Both, really.
"I think of it as an off world mission," Rodney admitted. "That makes missing Atlantis easier."
"Yeah," John agreed. "Just... not working right now."
Rodney lay his arm across John's stomach, snugging him in closer. "It's only for a couple more nights, then we can go home."
"I thought I'd be the one saying that to you," John smirked.
Rodney shrugged. "It's better, I guess."
"Now that Madison's older, we can do more with her," John said. They had a fun day at a local zoo, and then a picnic in the park.
"That is true," Rodney agreed.
"And you've stopped sniping so much at Kaleb, which makes Jeannie happier," John added.
"Finishing a PhD, even if it is in Literature, is something to respect," Rodney said.
"Awww..." John leaned in for a soft kiss. "Look at you, being accepting and all."
Rodney poked John in the ribs. "Don't tell anyone!"
"Never!" John promised as he wriggled away from the finger. Rodney knew all his ticklish spots.
They lay in the darkness for a bit.
"You hungry?" Rodney asked. "I could go for a burger or something." He considered. "A bacon cheese burger. And fries."
"Hell, yes!" John nodded. "Do you think we could sneak out for that?"
Another shrug. "I'm feeling carnivorous and need some meat," Rodney replied. "This vegetarian thing is okay for a bit, but I need some meat."
"There's got to be an all night diner somewhere nearby," John said. He sat up and swung his legs out of the bed.
"I'll Google it," Rodney said, grabbing his phone.
