Perhaps Bob was in this-is-your-subconscious-speaking mode (as opposed to I'm-literally-your-father) mode, and the interruption was the expression of Fraser's awareness of the clues that Janet was going to turn out to not be as available as she seemed... Because it does seem that Bob-as-literal-Bob had no reason to change positions like that.
