Tommy hadn't been sure about having the rehearsal dinner as a party like this instead of the normal one, but Evan was having a lot of fun. It wasn't like they would do a traditional bachelor party for each of them either since their friends groups overlapped to a weird degree. There was no right way to do it that didn't have someone having to pick a side and hurt one, so that party had been the weekend before. It had been a blast, even if Tommy never wanted to have to watch Evan doing that damned DDR without being allowed to take him to a bathroom and show how much he loved watching Evan dancing like he had been.

The whole thing was a party that was closer to what the reception was supposed to be, but there was less alcohol and more people that Tommy only knew a little bit about because this was more than just the wedding party. There were a few who couldn't make it to the wedding since there were only so many floats, and with the nearly entire 118 As-shift needing time off for parts of the wedding and everything, there were fewer people to cover. So the ones who had to work knew either Tommy or Evan was there that night to enjoy at least part of it. The photographer was running around and getting pictures of everyone who was there to make sure that they could get a good headcount.

"Hey," Eddie said as he came over to Tommy with a mimosa in his hand for him.

Tommy took it and smiled as he sipped at it. It was more champagne than orange juice this late at night, but Tommy didn't care. He was going home with Evan tonight, and no one was stopping him.

"So, how bad was clipboard Buck today?" Tommy asked.

"Ugh, Clipboard Evan. Buck out of your mouth sounds so weird," Eddie said.

"Clipboard Evan then," Tommy said.

"Ugh, that's just as bad. Never mind.'

"How drunk are you?"

Eddie rocked his hand back and forth and swayed a little.

Tommy rolled his eyes and looked across the room to where Chris was. The Diazes had been invited to the wedding since they would bring Chris. They agreed to come to the rehearsal dinner party and then stay back at the wedding since Chris had agreed to do it with his father. There was a lot of healing still to do there but Eddie was making the work. The wedding had been planned around the idea that Chris and Eddie might not be friendly, so there were people who were willing to move around from table to table depending on how things were going in the morning.

"So...the taskmaster?" Eddie asked.

"Do you really want to know the answer to that?" Tommy asked, knowing that Eddie didn't, but he was willing to let Eddie make horrible decisions.

"I feel like you are questioning me because you think I should answer no, but I'm feeling frisky tonight, so, sure. Hit me with it."

Tommy laughed as he looked around to make sure that no one was paying them any attention, at least until Eddie made a scene. "Well, watching him order people around is hot as well, and I'm well used to the neurosis that Evan is trying to make sure that things are perfect. Howie's bachelor party was more than enough to show me I liked it. I don't think I've ever been on my knees-"

"Nope." Eddie covered his ears, nearly sloshing his mimosa all over him as he started to sing a nameless tune. He stumbled a little and right into Hen.

"What are you doing to him, Tommy?" Hen asked.

"Just making Eddie regret all his life choices of asking me how much I like Clipboard Evan."

"You two were made for each other. He blushed when I asked him about it," Howie said.

"Buck doesn't blush about that."

Eddie started to hum loudly in response to Hen's words. She took the drink from his hand and allowed him to cover his ears fully.

"As I said before, I'm letting him see the pace, and I just try to keep up."

"That's my brother," Howie said.

"Mine too," Eddie said.

Hen shook her head and directed Eddie away from them. She marched him over to sit at the table and waggled a finger at him.

"How are you feeling?" Howie asked.

"Hmm, happy. Ready for tomorrow to be over just for the stress of it all. Everything is planned out, including any disaster that Evan has thought might happen."

"Oh, Bobby's been laughing at some of the things that he thought up, but given things that have happened at various get-togethers regarding the 118, I can understand the question. Maddie's been a little put out that he's not asked her for help with more things. I told her that she needed to let go."

"Evan's not asked for help from anyone. It's not that he doesn't want help; he just has firm boundaries regarding what we want to do. He doesn't want to invite too many cooks."

"Oh, I'm well aware. Maddie knows that, too. She was asked for opinions and given the rules of it all. She just assumed he would freak out closer to the day." Howie looked round, and then he smiled.

Tommy followed where he was, looking to see that Evan was on the dance floor with Jee on his feet, just moving around as much as she liked. Tommy thought about the three-year-old little girl who was going to be arriving in a little while, and if things went well, they would be fostered with the aim of adoption. No one knew about her because, with the stress of everything else, they didn't need to be told they were moving too fast. Everything felt right, and that was all that they needed to know what they were doing and what they should.

Evan wanted her to be the flower girl with Jee. Maddie already knew that someone else was going to be coming in and doing it with Jee, but Evan had let her think that it was someone from Tommy's family who couldn't be there before tomorrow.

"I wasn't sure if I would ever see him settled down. He was so calm after you entered his life. He wasn't talking to Maddie about many things and we knew it was different. The first fight you guys had was the telling point. I knew then that you two were forever."

"Daddy!"

There were not a lot of kids there and none were as young as Libby and Jee-Yun, so all eyes turned when the girl screamed.

Libby ran for Evan but stopped in her tracks when she saw Jee on Evan's feet.

"Who is that?" Howie asked.

"That's...a loaded gun. Go and get Hen. Leave Eddie where he is because he knows all about this. Chris does as well. Fetch Bobby, Athena, Maddie, hell, everyone who matters." Tommy finished off his mimosa and headed for where Evan was. His soon-to-be husband was picking up Libby. Most of the people who mattered were already on their way over, and the last two people inside the room were Libby's grandparents. They were older, much too old to raise a child.

"Dad!" Libby lunged for Tommy as soon as she sighted him. He caught and kissed her cheek while she wrapped her arms around his neck and held on.

"Sorry," Mark said as he made his way over to them.

"It's fine. She's full of energy despite the late hour."

Maddie and Bobby were the first to make it over them.

"Mark, Sharon, this my captain and father I never had, Bobby Nash, and then this lovely woman is my sister, Maddie Han. Maddie, Bobby, this is Mark and Sharon Digger. This is their granddaughter Libby, who Tommy and I will be fostering with the aim of adopting her if things work out."

Bobby looked at a loss for words, while Maddie looked like she was going to cry as she looked at Libby.

"I'm sorry for your loss," Bobby said.

"Thank you. He wasn't a good man, but he was our son. We tried, but we are getting older, and Libby deserves a good family. When we started to think about what we were going to do, we thought about the firefighter who saved Libby and then kept on checking on us and still did. It was a no-brainer when Libby fell in love with Evan. So, when they asked, we said yes."

"Marriage and a kid right off the bat?" Maddie asked.

"Plenty of people do it," Evan said.

"I know. I guess I keep waiting for you to think it's all too much," Maddie said.

"I'm going at my pace, Maddie. I'm sure that Tommy would love me to slow down a little, but he's swept up in his love for me, and so he overlooks my mach speed."

Tommy just stepped closer to him, and Libby leaned in his arms to touch both of them, sure as hell that he would be able to hold onto him.

"She's the one going down with Jee?" Maddie asked.

"Yes."

"They are going to love it. I'll work with them tomorrow to go down together. I have it." Maddie started to cry and lunged over to hug them both while Libby just patted her on the top of her head.

The rest of the people came over to meet with Libby and her grandparents, who were excited to meet everyone they had heard about. Tommy just enjoyed being around the family he had left that seemed to accept him for who he was now; the past was forgiven long ago and made to where it didn't matter anymore.

Tommy was looking forward to hopefully having more children down the road; he wanted to have a sibling for Libby, who had grown up alone, and Evan, who had mostly grown up alone after Maddie left the house. Tommy had never thought of having kids until Evan stumbled into his life with his stuttered name and a look from Howie that said there was something there. It was only when he had been called Buck that Tommy got it.

Evan was for him and him alone.

The End
