Republic of Doyle: Fanfic: a solid standby
Title: a solid standby
Fandom: Republic of Doyle
Characters/relationships: Des Courtney & Jake Doyle
Rating: G
Length: 133
Summary: "Providing alibis" wasn't in Des's job description, but he makes do.
"I dunno what you're talking about, officer," Jake's saying when he backs into the office, his phone on speaker. "I was with Des all night, see. Weren't we, Desie?"
Des doesn't look up from his laptop before he hums in agreement. "Curling finals were on, it was deadly. Crashed on the couch. Couldn't have left without me hearing him."
The sigh on the other end of the line is audible, even through Jake's shitty phone speakers, and the hangup is abrupt.
"Curling?" Jake asks, slumping at his desk. "You think anyone would believe that?"
Des shrugs. "They'll believe you slept through it, won't they?"
"Yeah, all right," Jake says, after a pause. "Thanks."
Des shrugs. Second time this year he's used curling; he'll have to come up with something new for next time.
