Summary: Methos is careful with words
Never is a long time, especially for an immortal. Methos tries not to use words like 'always', 'never', 'impossible', 'eternal'. Words have meanings that matter, or what are words at all? Casually, yes: intensifiers, exaggerations. But in writing, not-so-casual speech, he's quite careful with the words he uses, especially absolutes. Once upon a time, it was impossible for people to fly, for buildings to rise a hundred or more stories, vehicles to travel far faster than wind or water or animal effort could achieve. "Oh, that'll never happen" is just asking for trouble, and Methos is not fond of trouble.
