Magic Knight Rayearth: Fanfic: Introductions
Title: Introductions
Characters: Hikaru and Family, Lantis, Fuu
Rating: All
Length: 600 words
Author notes: Sensible people start writing with only two hours left to post, right? (But I think this gets me a name badge now.)
Summary: Hikaru struggles a little with bringing her family to Cephiro.
Logically, Hikaru knew that it was a going to be a bit of an ordeal to bring her family to Cephiro. First, there was the matter of explaining where they were going in such a way that they wouldn't think she was utterly insane. (Umi's parents had been pretty relaxed about it, but they also had had other things to worry about than simply going to another world.) Second, with Umi gone to Chizeta with Clef for the first half of winter break, there were only Hikaru and Fuu to take four of them - Hikaru's mother and three brothers - across to Cephiro. Third, she hadn't exactly mentioned Lantis yet. Well, not in so many words.
Hikaru's brothers were a bit bemused by having to be brought to Tokyo Tower to go onward to Cephiro.
"If it's a magic, why can't you use it anywhere?" Masaru asked.
Fuu could probably come up with a better explanation than "Because you can't," but she was meeting them at Tokyo Tower, so Hikaru just grabbed some hands and dragged them on.
The first jump wasn't too bad. It tugged a bit more at Hikaru's magic than bringing Umi's parents had last month, but then it had been all three of them, not just two. Bringing Satoru and Mother over first was Fuu's idea. They were the most level headed of the family, and the most likely to remain calm when Hikaru literally disappeared shortly after to fetch Masaru and Kakeru.
Lantis was there to meet them, as planned. He stood a little ways in from the door of the main receiving hall. He was wearing his simplest clothing. A fine shirt and trousers accented with boots and a cape draped about his shoulders. They'd agreed to no armour and nothing too… well, nothing too other-worldly, really. But there wasn't an easy way to keep anything about Cephiro from being strange and other-worldly.
The moment they set foot on the ground and Lantis stepped forward to greet them. "This is Lantis," Hikaru said, unsure of the best way to elaborate on who exactly he was to her, so she just kept to his name for now.
Lantis bowed low. "Welcome to Cephiro."
"A pleasure to meet you too, Lantis," Mother said with a friendly smile. Satoru repeated her greeting with a short bow.
Fuu slipped back to Tokyo first, while Hikaru walked with her eldest brother and mother toward the little sitting room that had been prepared for their arrival. Once they were sat down, and Lantis was serving them tea, she bolted back to the receiving hall and threw herself back to her other two brothers.
"Okay, that's just weird," Kakeru said when she reappeared in front of him.
The second jump was more difficult after having only just done it not ten minutes before. Magic pulled tight in Hikaru's chest, making it difficult to breathe. They hit the ground with more force on the other side than either Hikaru or Fuu could have prevented, both of them out of breath.
"Maybe we should not make two trips so close together," Fuu said.
"Yeah, we'll remember that next time," Hikaru agreed, pulling herself together and turning toward her brothers with a bright smile and an enthusiastic "Welcome to Cephiro!" before leading them down the corridor.
But if family visits were going to be a regular thing, they would probably need to just get better at it. It could be another aspect of magic training they could work on. After all, a few extra stretches never hurt her sword training.
